Susannah Cahalan, a journalist for the New York Post, was afflicted with a very rare autoimmune disease called anti-NMDA-receptor autoimmune encephalitis. Where my type of autoimmune disease affects the nerve roots and autonomic nerves, this type of autoimmune disease affects the brain.
